At the inaugural Republic Summit, former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Bikram Singh and Israel's Brigadier General Nitzan Nuriel graced the occasion and spoke on the threats of terrorism, and how to deal with them. Interacting with Republic TV's contributor Major Gaurav Arya, the two defence personnel spoke on a number of topics, ranging 9/11 to the situation in J&K.

When quizzed by Maj. Gaurav Arya about how things changed after the 9/11 terror attack in U.S, General Bikram Singh replied by saying that terrorism became a global issue and it awakened the fight against terror.

"9/11 was the turning point. It was a watershed moment as far as terrorism is concerned. It was only time when the United States took a stance. Three areas were under attack: New York, Washington DC and Pennsylvania. And the awakening of the United States that brought about UN Security Council resolution in the same month which actually gives out various prongs on the global war on terror," he added.

Brigadier General Nitzan Nuriel, when asked by Major Gaurav Arya about his country's stand on terror, responded by mentioning that there are two aspects to terrorism, the good and the bad.

"I'll start with a good news and the bad news. The bad news is that terrorism is going to stay with us forever. Unfortunately, this is something that becomes an issue that too many states are using as tools to achieve their political goals. The good news for all of us is that we are stronger than them, and we are going to win. I cannot see any situation in which terrorism can defeat us," he said.

Further on, the topic of J&K and ISIS came out, and Major Gaurav Arya had a question about how to stop the miscreants in the state from their acts. On this, General Bikram Singh said,

"In the globalized world, terrorism has assumed global link as we saw in 26/11 and 9/11. As far as J&K is concerned, the last 2-3 years has seen a great increase in radicalisation. There are people who have been hoisting ISIS and Pakistan flags. This is the sign of radicalisation."
