Republic TV has accessed three videos of the funeral procession of terrorist Sabzar Ahmad Sofi who was killed in an encounter with security forces on Wednesday. The three videos clearly show how known terrorists were harassing and assaulting local Kashmiris that had gathered at the ceremony at Naina Sangam in Anantnag. Two locals were also injured in firing by the terrorists as a 'gun salute' was given to Sabzar Ahmad Sofi. Eight top terror commanders, including Zeenat Ul Islam and Naved Jatt, were at the funeral. 

  1. In the first video, gun-toting Hizbul terrorists were seen standing on elevated platforms. The 48-second clip shows the terrorists raising lathis to silence the crowd. In all the chaos, a man was also dragged and pushed out of the platform. He was brutally beaten with the stick. As a result, angry locals were seen arguing with the crowd.   
  2. The second video, which goes on for 44 seconds, captured the terrorists raising 'Azadi' slogans. Over 24 bullets were fired by the Hizbul terrorists. As an argument broke between the locals and the terrorists, the Hizbul men were seen threatening the crowd and asking it to back off.   
  3. In the third video, over 22 terrorists and their backers are seen on an elevated platform, brandishing lathis to scare the locals. In the 51-second video the terrorists were seen tormenting locals at the funeral procession while shouting the 'Azadi' slogans.

Earlier in the day, two terrorists, including Sabzar Sofi, were killed after a fierce gun battle in Nowgam on the outskirts of Srinagar. Subzar Sofi had joined terrorist ranks after the death of Burhan Wani in 2016.

Here's a full press statement regarding the incident:

Security forces in the outskirts of Srinagar at Wanbal J/D of P/S Nowgam, launched a cordon and search operation today morning based on credible input about the presence of the terrorists.

During search operation, terrorists fired upon the search party, which was retaliated leading to an encounter. In the ensuing encounter 02 terrorists were neutralized. The two killed terrorists have been identified as  Sabzar Ahmad Sofi and Asif Ahmad Shergojiri. Both were affiliated with proscribed terror outfit HM.

Sabzar Ahmad Sofi son of Bashir Ahmad Sofi resident of Naina Sangam in district Anantnag had joined terrorist ranks in year 2016 and was involved in several attacks on security establishments and many other civilian atrocities in district Anantnag. He was involved in many terror cases including FIR No. 22/2018 under section 13 ULAP Act at Police Station Bijbehara. Pertinently, Sabzar Ahmad was involved in killing of one civilian lady namely Biba wife of Mohammad Yousuf Matto resident of Naina Batapora in the evening of 28-10-2016.

Asif Ahmad Shergojiri alias Khubaib son of Ali Mohammad Shergojiri resident of Khiram Anantnag had joined the terrorist ranks this year in January and was actively involved in attacks on security establishments and civilian atrocities in the area. He was involved in many terror cases and the prominent cases include FIR No. 04/2018 under section 13 ULAP Act registered at Police Station Srigufwara and FIR No. 15/2018 under section 15/2018 under section 451, 392,506 RPC, 7/25 Arms Act registered at Police Station Srigufwara.

Incriminating materials including arms & ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. Police has registered a case and investigation has been initiated.

After wrapping up the operation, recovering the dead bodies of the terrorists and Arms and ammunition, the operational Parties took security precautions with regard to sanitization of the area and advising people not to unnecessarily visit and tamper with the site of encounter.  The Police advised the people of the locality that anything found suspicious in nature, which could possibly be some explosive material, should be reported to Police so that any inadvertant and avoidable loss to any member of the civil society could be avoided.
