Six days into the gangrape of a 19-year-old in Haryana’s Rewari, Republic TV’s investigation has exposed the rapist group and the Manohar Lal Khattar government on tape. The investigation exposes the state of the law and order system in Haryana. The investigation has revealed that the police didn’t catch the rapists, even after they were identified, because the cops were on a VVIP duty the day after the rape. The rapists could flee easily as the state Education Minister’s mother had passed away, leading to a mass deployment of force at his residence.
Suspended police inspector Heeramani in a phone conversation with Republic TV’s Senior Correspondent Shantashree has admitted that the police were deployed at state Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma’s residence as his mother had passed away.
“The thing is force at Kanina were at Mahendragarh, the mother of Ram Bilas Sharma passed away. There were lots of VIPS who were coming and going so most of them were over there,” said Heeramani.
The suspended police inspector also admitted that because of the VIP duty, the rapists got the time to flee.
“Yes they did get time (to flee), because from village to village, they will find out what is happening,” said Heeramani.
However, in the same breath, Heeramani also blamed the complainant for the delay in nabbing the accusing, saying, “But, if we were informed by the complainant party at night itself and were guided properly then we would have searched on our level.”
Meanwhile, a Facebook video has surfaced, which shows a party of drunkards hosted by one of the nabbed rapists, Nishu Phogat. In the video, he and other hooligans were seen shirtless and sozzled. The video dated September 7 also holds clue to other rape accused, who are believed to be in the video. Also, another video, shared on Facebook in February, portraying the alcoholic achievements of the rape accused, suggests that Phogat used the crime spot for daily drunk parties. In the edge of the video, the well wherein the victim was raped can be seen clearly.
The investigation also proves that even after Nishu’s father informed the police about his whereabouts, he wasn’t arrested by the cops. Furthermore, the cops’ refusal to the access to the doctor, who recieved a call from Phogat during the crime was being committed. It is believed, that the doctor can identify at least two people who were involved in the crime.
The Republic TV’s investigation also reveals that the cops failed to find the crime spot till September 15. The suspended police inspector said that the police found no other evidence other than the vehicle in which the victim was abducted and that the cops went to crime spot on September 15.
“There was no other evidence found, they went to the crime spot on 15th when the doctor was arrested. he told us,” said Heeramani.
Putting the blame on the victim’s family, Heeramani justified the delay in reaching the crime spot saying, “On 14th I will tell you, this girl and the family said that they will do a medical check up. That is when this issue got hyped in the media. After that she was admitted in Rewari hospital. At night, the magistrate was called and a statement was recorded. When the statement was being recorded with the magistrate, they did not mention the location of the crime. We did not know where the crime occurred.”
When the suspended inspector was told that the crime spot - the well, was mentioned in the FIR and even the media reached the spot after enquiring from the villagers, she said:
“The villagers, see whatever we found in Kanina is there and the incident happened in Rewari district. No one even told us about the well.”
