Paying respects to former External Affairs Minister late Sushma Swaraj, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday praised the tall personality Swaraj was, highlighting her tireless work in her government career while addressing a prayer meet organised in Swaraj's memory in New Delhi.
"Sushmaji's personality had many facets and her life had many milestones. We as BJP workers working as close friends have witnessed uncountable experiences and incidents. With respect to discipline and organisation, one can learn from Sushmaji how to tirelessly work on any task, even after reaching peaks of her career. There is no bigger inspiration for any party worker than Sushmaji," he said.
Talking about her adamant decision to not contest in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he reminisced how she had previously rescinded her decision and put party needs first over her principles.
"When she decided to not contest in this time's Lok Sabha elections, it was not the first time. She was very firm about her decisions. Earlier, I and Venkaiahji met her and told her to contest from Karnataka where a win was almost certain but challenging, she immediately agreed for the Party's sake. But this time, before any pressure could be put on her, she publically announced her decision to not contest," he added.
PM Modi further praised her iconic speeches and said that she lived her life on Lord Krishna's message on Karma.
"Her speeches were inspiring and effective. Her oration reflected the gravity of thought and always reached new heights of her personality. She was dedicated to Krishna Bhakti and she lived Krishna's message. If one sees her entire journey one can see how she fulfilled her Karma," he said.
Talking about her death, PM Modi said that article 370 had been very close to her and she was extremely happy on its passage, as she passed away a few hours after the Rajya Sabha passed the Bill.
"On one hand she has talked about the Jammu-Kashmir issue and article 370 on various forums, she was very attached to that topic. When life's such a big dream is fulfilled and happiness is boundless, Bansuri (Sushma Swaraj's daughter) said that she passed away so happily, one can only imagine," he added.
Former Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj passed away on last Tuesday night, after having suffered a cardiac arrest in New Delhi. The senior BJP leader was taken to AIIMS at quarter to nine in a critical condition on Tuesday evening. On the same day, Swaraj had issued a statement on the big development regarding the Modi government scrapping Article 370 in J&K and integrating the state with India like never before.
The former Union Minister was best known to be accessible especially on micro-blogging platform Twitter. She was called the 'supermom' in foreign media and had become one of the most-followed politicians on Twitter.
In her second last tweet, she had congratulated Home Minister Amit Shah for moving a resolution in the Rajya Sabha for statutory revocation of Article 370. Her final tweet which was posted in the evening since where she thanked PM Modi for the integration of Kashmir. She said that she was waiting to see the day in her lifetime.
