SCOOP: Ayodhya Mediation didn't fail; exclusive details accessed

In a massive development in the Ayodhya-Ram Janambhoomi dispute case, Republic TV has accessed super-exclusive documents revealing that mediation was about to reach its final stage of settlement in the dispute. While it declared by CJI Ranjan Gogoi on August 2 that mediation in the Ayodhya land dispute has failed, the documents reveal that mediation was about to reach settlement, but could not be completed 'due to paucity of time'. In a letter written by Sunni Waqf Board to the mediation panel, comprising of Justice P.M. Ibrahim Kalifulla, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and Sriram Panchi, the board has asked for more time from the panel to reach Settlement. 

"The issue was almost resolved and the parties had reached a definite settlement. However, the same could not be finalised due to paucity of time. If only or two weeks more were available with you, we are sure that Settlement could have come through," the letter dated September 5, 2019 reads. 

In the letter, the Sunni Waqf Board has also stated that they have been in touch with other parties, both Muslims and Hindus, adding that all the parties have agreed that if another attempt is made under the mediators, the chances for a settlement are bright. The board has asserted that resuming the mediation will be welcomed by virtually all the parties in the matter. Assuring fullest cooperation, the Sunni Waqf board has also written that it does not want to delay the SC proceeding. They have added that mediation can take place while the SC is hearing the matter.

Nirmohi Akhara denies seeking mediation's resumption

This development has come a day after the Nirmohi Akhara, which is one of the parties in the Ayodhya dispute, categorically stated that they have not asked for any resumption in the Ayodhya mediation process. Nirmohi Akhara reiterated that they do not require any mediation panel, adding that they will interact with Sunni Waqf Board in the matter only if the top court would ask them to do it. Nirmohi Akhara also maintained that they are not ready to delay the case proceedings currently ongoing in the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, on Monday, the SC received a short memorandum filed by the Ayodhya mediation committee seeking its permission to resume talks in the case.

Day-to-day hearing in SC

On August 2, CJI Ranjan Gogoi announced that Ayodhya mediation panel headed by Justice FM Kalifulla failed to reach a conclusion in the matter. Following this, the court began day-to-day hearings from August 6. The Supreme Court had on March 8, referred the politically-sensitive Ayodhya land dispute case to a court-appointed and monitored mediation panel.
