Security forces gunned down two terrorists in Zagoo Arizal area of Jammu and Kashmir's Budgam district on Thursday morning, November 1. 

The incident occurred during an encounter between the terrorists and security forces in the area. The Officials launched a search operation; a joint endeavor by a team of police and security officials based on credible information about their activities in the area.

In a statement, the Jammu and Kashmir police said that during the search operation, the terrorists opened fire of security officials, which was met with retaliation. The case has been registered and the Officials have acquired incriminating materials at the site of encounter including arms and ammunition. 

Residents have been warned by police officials to avoid venturing around the encounter zone as there might be a presence of stray explosive materials. They have also requested locals to cooperate with them till the area is completely sanitised.

Just last week on October 26, two terrorists and a soldier was killed in an encounter in North Kashmir’s Sopore district 

"Two terrorists have been killed in the Sopore operation," Srinagar-based Defence Spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia said. 

Meanwhile, Army has also suffered casualties, where the terrorists attacked an army camp on October 26 in South Kashmir's Shopian district, leaving a soldier injured.

While on October 25, two terrorists were killed by the security forces in Kreeri area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district and 4 militants were killed by the security forces in Arwani Anantnag district of South Kashmir.

As per the reports, terrorists opened fire on the army camp of 34 RR stationed in Mantribugh village of Shopian. However, terrorists managed their escaped but an army soldier sustained minor injuries in the attack. A search operation has been launched to nab the attackers. There has been a spout in encounters between security forces and militants in the last few weeks.

Where on October 11, two local terrorists, including a PhD scholar, were killed in a similar encounter with security forces in Nowgam area on the outskirts of Srinagar city. Around 170 terrorists have been put down in Kashmir this year while 217 ultras were killed in 2017. The security forces are going after terrorists as part of "operation all out" and on the basis of a “hit list” of ultras.

The local support and sympathy for terrorist escalated since the killing of Hizbul commander Burhan Wani in July 2016, which has become a concern to the State.
