Minutes after the Governor of Maharashtra, Bhagat Singh Koshyari, invited the second-largest party Shiv Sena to form a government in Maharashtra and gave it time till 7:30 pm on Monday, BJP MP Dr Subramanian Swamy while speaking to Republic TV on Sunday urged the BJP to support Shiv Sena.
Dr Subramanian Swamy while drawing a parallel to the Ramayana said, "Lord Rama gave up his kingdom because his father gave a vow to his wife Kaikeyi and she wanted Rama to go away and hand over his kingdom to his younger brother Bharata, Rama didn't hesitate for a minute. I would urge the BJP now, that when Sena goes tomorrow, they should extend unconditional support to the Shiv Sena government."
The BJP MP added, "The BJP-Sena alliance is very important and we should not stand on the prestige that who will form the government, let anybody be Chief Minister, it hardly matters because this is a cabinet form of government, what can the Chief Minister do? If the ministers are strong, the Chef Minister has to bow before them, so I would advise the BJP leadership, please extend support to Shiv Sena tomorrow when they stake a claim to form a government."
In a major political twist in Maharashtra, BJP after meeting with its MLAs informed the governor that it will not form the government in the state. Addressing a press conference after meeting governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, BJP leader Chandrakant Patil said that Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena can stake claim to form the government. He said that Sena has betrayed the mandate of the people of Maharashtra.
Announcing BJP's decision that they conveyed to the Maharashtra governor on Sunday evening, Chandrakant Patil said, "In the elections, BJP, RPI, Sena and other parties were given a mandate. Yesterday, the governor invited the BJP to form the government. We fought for the alliance, got votes for the alliance. Sena does not want to be part of the alliance. Sena chose to insult the mandate. We won't form the government. We informed the governor. If Sena has to go with NCP, Congress, we wish them good luck."
