On Saturday, the separatist organisation in Tripura National Liberation Front of Tripura (SD) signed a peace agreement with the Tripura government and the Union Home Ministry. The National Liberation Front of Tripura (SD) signed a Memorandum of Settlement with the Indian government and Tripura state government.
Eighty-eight cadre of the militant group will surrender on August 13. According to the Memorandum, NLFT(SD) members will return to the mainstream.
The NLFT(SD) was led by Sabir Kumar Debbarma. The organisation has been under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act since 1997. As per the Press Information Bureau, the group has engaged in violence by operating from their camps across the international border. It was responsible for violent activities including 317 insurgency incidents owing to which 28 security forces and 62 cvilians lost their lives between 2005-2015.
Peace talks had been initiated in 2015 and there has been no violence by the outfit since 2016.
The BJP won over 90 per cent seats in the three-tier panchayat elections in the state. Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb said that in Zilla Parishad out of 116 seats in 8 districts, the BJP won 114. In the Panchayat Samiti, out of 419 seats in 35 blocks, BJP won 411 seats. In the Gram Panchayats, out of total 6111 seats in 591 Panchayats #BJP has won 5916 seats.
