He said, "I have come to submit my resignation to the speaker. I don't know about my daughter, she is an independent woman."

Reddy has been a seven-time Congress MLA in the BTM layout constituency in Bengaluru and has previously held the profile of the Karnataka Home Minister.

In June first week, Reddy wrote an open letter lasing out at Congress leadership over the party's loss in the elections.

He said that the party suffered a poor defeat in the Lok Sabha elections due to the lack of the Congress Party's elderly presence in the state government and the lack of organizational vision of some Congress ministers.

He further said that the party's leading members and supervisors of the state have stumbled on party's internal problem, adding that the coalition government of Congress-JD(S) also lost electoral passion due to lack of communication.
