A day after being detained at the Delhi international airport, former IAS officer Shah Faesal has been taken to a makeshift detention centre at the Centaur Hotel in Srinagar, officials said on Thursday. As per the officials, he was shifted from his home to the hotel during the late Wednesday night.
On Wednesday, Shah Faesal was stopped from taking a flight to Istanbul at the Delhi airport during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday and was immediately flown back to Srinagar. He was kept under preventive custody under the Public Safety Act (PSA). The officials said that during preliminary questioning, Faesal said he was taking a connecting flight to London from Istanbul.
After being detained at the Delhi airport, he was again detained under the PSA on his arrival in Srinagar, the officials said.
Shah Faesal had been fearmongering over the prevailing situation in Jammu and Kashmir in the light of the abrogation of Article 370 and integration of J&K into India. Recently amid the Eid celebrations in the country, Shah Faesal posted a tweet saying that there is no Eid until the 'last bit of insult is avenged', in the light of the ongoing situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
Ex-IAS officer Shah Faesal, who shot to limelight after becoming the first Kashmiri to top the civil services exam 2009, resigned from his post earlier in January 2019. Faesal went on to launch his political party 'Jammu and Kashmir People's Movement' at a function in Rajbagh area of Srinagar, which saw the participation from hundreds of the people in the region.
