The Shahjahanpur case

The former Union Minister Swami Chinmayanand was to attend court on October 1. However, the date of his hearing got postponed to October 3 as a consequence of his late discharge from the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) hospital. After being discharged from the hospital, he was sent directly to Shahjahanpur jail. On October 1, District Court Judge Ram Babu Sharma reserved the order in the matter after hearing arguments from both sides. Sharma had dismissed the bail plea of Chinmayanand along with the law student. In relation to the case, two videos clips had surfaced. One allegedly showcased the obscene conversation between the woman and Chinmayanand. The other, however, showed the woman along with three other people and a driver in a car discussing the amount that is to be extorted from Chinmayanand.

The accusations

The victim had earlier disappeared after putting up a post on social media. When the police tracked her down, an SIT was assigned to specially look into the case. The woman had alleged that Chinmayanand sexually exploited her for over a year after helping her with her college admissions. She alleged that Chinmayanand apparently filmed her while she was taking a bath and blackmailed her with the video, eventually raping her. The woman also alleged that she was raped multiple times and blackmailed by the leader post the incident.
