Even as the nation celebrated India becoming a space superpower on Wednesday, the Congress party and its president Rahul Gandhi resorted to cheap politics on this matter, terming this massive success as 'theatre'.

Moments after the Prime Minister addressed the nation and announced that the country has its first ever A-SAT, the grand old party took to Twitter to highlight the fact that the DRDO, which had conducted the operation, first came into existence when they were in power.

In a series of tweets, the party congratulated the scientists for this magnificent achievement, though, made sure to take credit for the existence of such organizations.

Soon after, Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter as he congratulated the DRDO for the achievement, but also took a sly dig at the Prime Minister.

Party's national spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala went a step further and claimed complete credit for this A-SAT, mentioning that it was under the UPA government of 2009-14 that plan for this mission came into existence.

India becomes only the fourth country to have such a satellite in its ranks. Prior to India, only China, the United States of America and Russia had the capability to tackle any kind of space threat.

Addressing the nation, PM Modi had mentioned that this will be a 'game-changer' and that the weapon which the country now possesses is just for its own safety, and not as a show of power against any country.
