Neil Nongkynrih, a Padmashree awardee, founder and pianist for the Shillong Chamber Choir spoke to Republic in the backdrop of a historic moment, as Chandrayaan 2's Vikram is all set to land on the Moon between 1:30-2:00 am on Saturday, September 7. The group performed a beautiful rendition of the evergreen song 'Saare Jahan se acha' and 'Hum honge kamiyab'.
When asked to sing, one of the members of the group said: "Since it's all about India, it's what we call the patriotic melody with the song Rang de Basanti and Saare Jahan se acha". The Choir's founder in an exclusive interview with Republic TV explained his emotions towards writing beautiful melodies for his country. Neil Nongkynrih said he's proud to be Indian and that he loves the country. He also asserted that Chandrayaan 2's landing is a proud moment for the entire country. The Group also performed a beautiful rendition of 'Hum honge kamiyab' on the show. Members of the Choir team who joined Republic during the Live broadcast were: William, Banlam, Sandon, Ryan Riewbankit, Donna, Jessica, Patricia, Dorea, Rishila, and Iba, along with their Founder, Director and Conductor Padmashri Neil Nongkynrih.
The Group also performed one of their famous renditions 'Vande Matram' on the show. The song was also written and composed by Neil Nongkynrih and was recorded back in 2012, however, ita gained prominence only in 2014 when they performed the song in the television show 'Kaun Banega Crorepati'.
The Shillong Chamber Choir had performed for the families of security forces in 2018 on the occasion of Republic Day celebrations at Shillong. The group has been touring extensively all around India and the world, gaining fame and recognition and making the country proud. Their future projects include involvement in music videos, movies and concerts all across the country.
