Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti, on Wednesday, insulted Indian Army officer Major Rohit Shukla after visiting the SMHS hospital in Pulwama. She met a boy named "Tauseef" who is currently undergoing treatment after he was 'allegedly thrashed and asked to pose with a gun' by Major Shukla. She alleged that the officer 'tortured' the young boy by calling him at Shadimarg camp.
"Tauseef is his name and he was summoned to the camp. The militants had already killed his father a few years back. His brother is in the army and has gone missing and Major Shukla called him to the army camp like he himself mentioned. He was beaten up badly there. He was told to put a gun around his neck for a photo and he was also threatened by the major who said - if you don't wear the gun around your neck, I will conduct an encounter on you. In my opinion, it is believed that Major Shukla is a brave soldier but what kind of major is he? He attacked the kids of Jammu and Kashmir and that cannot be called bravery. Calling him to the camp and then treating him like".
"This, beating him up. The kid was injured to the level that he was taken to the hospital. His brother has also been missing for the last few months. I hope governor takes notice of this. Army's chief and core commander will take notice of this. They will question major Ajay Shukla and ask him why he was so cruel to the youth", she added.
When asked whether she will demand action from Army Chief, former Chief Minister Mehmood said:
"Yes, I will talk to the core commander on this matter. Ajay Shukla should be answerable, how could he beat him up? They called him to the army camp and then beat him up to the extent that he was about to lose his life".
Earlier on Tuesday, Mehbooba Mufti came out in support of Kanhaiya Kumar and Umar Khalid and others who have been named in the JNU sedition case. The Delhi Police has filed a voluminous 1200-page chargesheet in the 2016 JNU sedition case in which Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid, Anirban Bhattacharya and seven others have been named as the main accused.
Comparing the naming of Kumar, Khalid, and Kashmiri students in the chargesheet by the Delhi police to the hanging of Afzal Guru in 2014, she said:
"Before elections 2019 these investigations are coming out hence we have doubt in this. You must have things in mind that before 2014 elections, Congress hanged Afzal Guru to death as they would have thought that they will win 2014 election with this move. Now BJP is doing the samething what Congress had done in 2014. Now, they have chargesheeted Kanhaiya, Umar Khalid, 7-8 Kashmiri students. I condemn this. They are unnecessarily charging Kashmiri people before 2019. They are using Kashmiri people to garner votes."
