Over 19,000 people participated in the sixth edition of the Navy Marathon that was conducted by Eastern Naval Command (ENC) at Beach Road at Vishakhapatnam

Over 19,000 people participated in the sixth edition of the Navy Marathon that was conducted by Eastern Naval Command (ENC) at Beach Road at Vishakhapatnam. It saw a huge rush of enthusiastic runners and citizens dressed up in white t-shirts. The participants that comprised of women, children, youngsters, and senior citizens, presented an explicit amount of energy and were highly interested in the event. Runners from many cities, including Hyderabad, Kochi, and Vijayawada, joined the mega event and energetically waited for the event to start since early hours of the day. 

Restrictions imposed by traffic police

The marathon that was flagged off at Viswa Priya Function Hall by ENC officials was conducted in four categories — full marathon (42km), half marathon (21km), 10km run and 5km run. However, in order to keep everything under control and to avoid any untoward incident, the city traffic police came up with certain restrictions that were later imposed along the beach stretch from NTR statue and R.K Beach to Chepaluppada and Bheemili on the 30-km long marine drive.

Owing to the large crowd, including naval officers, that was expected to hit the marathon, the police made it clear that vehicles travelling from NTR Statue to Jodugullapalem Junction will not be allowed on either side of the road from 3 am to 11 am, while vehicular traffic on the side abutting the beach from Jodugullapalem to Chepala Uppada will be closed for all vehicles for the duration of the marathon.

Further, traffic police added that traffic would be diverted from certain routes through which the marathon was expected to pass. Moreover, some routes were also shut down for the same purpose. Therefore, all approach roads to Beach Road were directed to be closed for vehicular traffic. Also, Vehicles heading towards the city from Bheemili were scheduled to be diverted via Dorathota on the NH-16 stretch.
