Padma Vibhushan awardee and eminent jurist Soli Sorabjee spoke about Arun Jaitley after his demise on Saturday. The former Attorney-General of India knew the senior BJP leader from their legal circle. He was very close to him and has said that he misses Jaitley dearly. He also heaped praises on Arun Jaitley for his intellect, humility and ability to win over his opponents.
"I knew Arun Jaitley for many years. He was an honourable person who combined integrity with intellect. In the profession, he was not dogmatic, he did not try to shout down his opponents, his basic good faith or good nature was with which he won over his opponents. There was one thing about Arun which I remember keenly. VP Singh wanted to make him a law officer in Central (unclear), any person would have grabbed that, but Arun said I am not that senior. Then he becomes Additional Solicitor General, that shows the man's humility. He would always try to build consensus, he won over people with his ability, he did not shout people down. He had a very nice way of getting along with people from outside the profession."
"I miss him very much. I knew him and I miss him dearly. He combined both roles as a politician and a lawyer very well, that was his unique characteristic. Arun Jaitley was an exception," he said.
