Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh pay tribute to Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary

Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi and Dr. Manmohan Singh offered tribute to India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on his 130th birth anniversary

On the occasion of Jawaharlal Nehru's 130th birth anniversary today, Congress Interim President Sonia Gandhi and India's former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh offered their tribute to India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in Delhi. India's former President Pranab Mukherjee and former Vice President Hamid Ansari also paid their tribute to Nehru at Shantivan in Delhi. 

Jawaharlal Nehru was born on November 14, 1889, in the Prayagraj region of Uttar Pradesh. He passed away on May 27,1964. Jawaharlal Nehru served as the India's first Prime Minister from August 15,1947 to 27 May 1964. He also played a key role in India's freedom struggle from the British.

Congress leaders pay tribute

On the occasion of Nehru's birth anniversary, various Congress leaders took to their official Twitter handle and remembered India's first Prime Minister. The Official Twitter handle of the Indian National Congress described Nehru as a man who ardently fought for India's independence.

Taking to Twitter, Rahul Gandhi also described Nehru as one of the great architects of modern India

India's former President Pranab Mukherjee remembered India's first Prime Minister as a man who laid down the foundation of modern India.

Children's Day

Jawaharlal Nehru's birth anniversary is also celebrated as Children's Day or Bal Diwas in India. On this day, schools across the nation organize different activities like games, competitions, elocution, etc. Political parties and government bodies across the nation mark the day by organising commemorative social events and activities.
