In a major development, the probe into the death of Bollywood actor Sridevi has been closed, confirmed Dubai Public Prosecutor on Tuesday. The cause of Sridevi's death has been confirmed as drowning after losing consciousness.

"The medical report showed that the death of Indian actress Sridevi Kapoor came as a result of her drowning in her hotel room after losing consciousness," said Dubai Public Prosecutor.

Public Prosecutor's Office of the Emirate of Dubai decided to hand over the body of Sridevi to her relatives on Tuesday after the investigation of her death and the closure of the incident.

The Public Prosecutor's Office said, "The decision to release the body came after all the investigations and procedural matters followed in such incidents were completed, in order to determine all its circumstances and ensure that justice was done within the framework of the law."

No further probe will be conducted into the death of Sridevi.

Sridevi’s mortal remains will be airlifted from Dubai at 5 pm and land in India at 10 pm on Tuesday.

Earlier, the Attorney General in Dubai gave the nod and the No Objection Certificate (NOC) to the family for release of the Bollywood star's mortal remains. The embalming process is set to begin shortly and will take around 90 minutes.

Saurabh Malhotra, nephew of Sridevi, is said to have reached the morgue to claim her body.

The mystery surrounding Sridevi’s demise deepened after the autopsy report revealed that she died on Saturday of ‘accidental drowning’ after losing balance and falling into a bathtub full of water. According to the forensic report, traces of alcohol were also found in the actor's body.

Sridevi had gone to UAE, along with husband Boney Kapoor and daughter Khushi Kapoor, to attend her nephew Mohit Marwah's wedding. Sridevi’s elder daughter Janhvi Kapoor had to skip the wedding celebrations to complete the shoot of her Bollywood debut film ‘Dhadak’. Celebrities and fans have been flocking to the Mumbai residence of Anil Kapoor, brother-in-law of the actress, to offer their condolences.
