A Bollywood insider, considered to be close to Sridevi’s family, told Republic TV that he had received a call from Boney Kapoor saying he had to urgently go back to Dubai.
While speaking to Republic TV’s Shawan Sen on condition of anonymity, the insider said Boney Kapoor called him after the UP Investors Summit and said he had to “rush back” to Dubai.
Boney Kapoor had returned to India on February 21, 4 days before Sridevi's death, to attend UP Investors Summit.
Boney had attended the UP Investors Summit on February 22 along with Subhash Ghai, Ravi Kishan and Anurag Kashyap.
Initially, some reports suggested Boney Kapoor had flown back to Dubai to 'surprise' Sridevi.
In a major development on Tuesday, the probe into the death of Sridevi was closed by the Dubai Public Prosecutor on Tuesday.
Back home, no suo moto case will be registered, reports Republic TV’s Shawan Sen.
Mumbai Police will investigate if a formal complaint is registered. There could be a possibility of Dubai Police seeking help from Mumbai Police. In such a case, Mumbai Police will cooperate once the formal request comes in.
The State Intelligence Department is unlikely to step in as of now.
After initial reports of Sridevi suffering a cardiac arrest emerged, the mystery surrounding her demise deepened following the autopsy report that revealed she died on Saturday of ‘accidental drowning’ after losing balance and falling into a bathtub full of water. According to the forensic report, traces of alcohol were also found in the actor's body.
Sridevi had gone to UAE, along with husband Boney Kapoor and daughter Khushi Kapoor, to attend her nephew Mohit Marwah's wedding. Sridevi’s elder daughter Janhvi Kapoor had to skip the wedding celebrations to complete the shoot of her Bollywood debut film ‘Dhadak’. Celebrities and fans have been flocking to the Mumbai residence of Anil Kapoor, brother-in-law of the actress, to offer their condolences.
