Even as a huge controversy is brewing following an attack on Jagan Mohan Reddy, the YSRCP chief has tweeted informing that he is now in a better and safe situation. Taking to Twitter, Jagan Mohan Reddy wrote, “To everyone worried about my safety - I’d like to inform you that I am safe. Such cowardice acts will not dissuade me but only strengthen my resolve to work for the people of my state!”

In a major security lapse by Andhra Pradesh government, opposition leader Jagan Mohan Reddy was attacked in Vizag airport post the security check. A man named Srinivas approached Reddy on the pretext of taking a selfie and after taking the picture he struck the YSRCP chief’s shoulder with a knife used in cock fights. Post the attack, the YSRCP blamed the TDP for the attack, in a statement.

“YSRCP Chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy was attacked after the Security Check in Vizag Airport which is a major security lapse since the attack has happened post the Security Check. The attacker, Srinivas a native of Amalapuram approached Jagan Mohan Reddy for a selfie and soon after the selfie was done, Srinivas striked Jagan’s shoulders with the knife used in Cock fights. Srinivas is a staff with Airport canteen run by TDP leader Harsha Vardhan and YSRCP prima facie suspects conspiracy by TDP Government,” said the YSRCP in its official statement.

After the attack, Reddy boarded his flight to Hyderabad and from there he checked himself to Neuro City Centre for treatment. As per the first report by the medical team, Reddy’s wounds are deep.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh DGP RP Thakur said the it was the CISF who apprehended the attacker and handed over to AP police. The video clearly shows, he said, that it was the AP police who were present at the scene and took the suspect into custody. He also alleged that the act is for publicity sake. The DGP also alleged that the attacker was a YSRCP supporter. The DGP is now facing a lot of flak for speaking without checking his facts.
