Uttar Pradesh Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya slammed Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram Shashi Tharoor over his insensitive remark, on Wednesday, insulting the Kumbh Mela and the U.P cabinet member who took a dip in the holy Ganga at the Sangam Ghat in Prayagraj. Questioning Congress chief Rahul Gandhi on Shashi Tharoor's comments, he said that the Congress leader's remarks have hurt the sentiments of the people.
"BJP is governing under the guidance of Yogi ji in the state and Modi ji at the centre. More that 1200 crore people, not only from India but from the entire world have planned to come to the Prayagraj Kumbh. The comments that Shashi Tharoor made after the UP cabinet took the holy dip in the Ganga have insulted the beliefs of the people. Such language has no place in the country. Rahul Gandhi must answer to his comments, Is taking a holy dip in the Sangam equivalent getting naked?," said Keshav Prasad Maurya lashing out at the Congress party.
Furthermore, speaking in the matter, Surendra Jain, VHP Joint General Secretary also hit out at Shashi Tharoor on his Kumbh insults.
"I believe it is not our place to comment on the statement made by a man like Shashi Tharoor. This is the same man who earlier symbolized the people of India as 'cattle class'. He doesn't know the culture and traditions of the country. The Sangam he is talking about, he must go deep inside it once... He must go out once without his pants... These people have sacrificed a lot.. I am warning him, he should not insult the traditions of our country. He might have studied from Cambridge, but he must leave his comments there only. If he wants to stay in India, then he must understand the culture of India," said Mr Jain.
Shashi Tharoor has been facing the wrath over his remarks against people taking a holy dip 'naked' in the Kumbh Sangam, Prayagraj. The Congress MP took to Twitter on Tuesday and attempted to take a jibe at the clean 'Ganga campaign' by making an immature comment about people taking a dip into the holy river with clothes to cleanse their 'sins'.
"Ganga bhi swachh rakhni hain, aur paap bhi yahi dhone hain. Iss Sangam mein sab nange hain. Jai Ganga Maiya ki!" he said in a tweet. (Ganga has to be kept clean, and sins also have to be washed there. In this sangam (meeting point of rivers) everyone is naked. Hail Goddess Ganga!)
Tharoor's Tweet came after Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh cabinet on Tuesday met at the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj for the first time and took a holy dip in the Ganga river at the Sangam ghat.
