Sukhoi's aerial salute to Chief of Air Staff RKS Bhadauria at Hindon

Paying respect to the Chief of Air Staff RKS Bhadauria, the Sukhoi 30MKI aircraft performed the Charlie manoeuvre during a full rehearsal on Sunday ahead of Air Force Day. The Charlie manoeuvre is a manoeuvre in which the fighter jet comes in from a low altitude and with great speed propels upwards and finally, before it levels out at a particular altitude it rolls upside down. The Sukhoi 30MKI fighter jet released flares for effect as it began its ascend.

As the Indian Airforce prepares for its 87th Anniversary of glorious service to the nation, the IAF tweeted details of what is to be expected: A scintillating air display by various aircraft will be the hallmark of the Air Force Day Parade 2019 cum Investiture Ceremony at AF Station Hindan (Ghaziabad). The air display will commence with flag bearing skydivers of renowned AKASH GANGA Team jumping from AN-32 aircraft in their colourful canopies, at 0800 hours.

Sukhois are used for long-range air defences

The Sukhoi series of jets are twin-engine and are used for long-range air defences. The Su-27 can carry long-range patrol missions as well as escort heavy nuclear bomber aircraft like Tu-95 bear, Tu-22M Backfire and Tu-160 Blackjack. The two-person Su-30s and single-pilot Su-35s can undertake similar missions as Su-27 but can carry a heavier load and a longer range. The Indian Air Force also operates MiG-29UPG and Su-30MKI combat aircraft while the Indian Navy has MiG-29K jets for the warship INS Vikramaditya.
