As per Republic TV sources, Veteran actor Sunny Deol is all set to join the Bharatiya Janata Party, (BJP) and is likely to contest from Punjab's Gurdaspur.

As per Republic TV sources, Veteran actor Sunny Deol is all set to join the Bharatiya Janata Party, (BJP) and is likely to contest from Punjab's Gurdaspur. He is also the third member of the Deol family to be officially associated with the party and has been spotted in the town of Gurdaspur twice in the past week. 

The Gurdaspur ticket was previously held by another former actor Vinod Khanna for four terms, till he passed away in 2017

Speculations of the actor joining the political party started when BJP chief Amit Shah met actor Sunny Deol in Pune on Friday, 20th April. 

Prior to this, Sunny Deol's father, veteran actor Dharmendra had a brief stint in politics about ten years ago, when he contested the 2004 national election from Rajasthan's Bikaner on BJP ticket and won. Last week, the veteran actor campaigned for his wife, actor and BJP lawmaker Hema Malini, in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura.

Punjab will vote in a single phase, on May 19, the last day of the seven-phased national election.
