The Supreme Court on Monday will hear petitions challenging the validity of Article 35A - which gives the state government of Jammu & Kashmir the power to define "permanent citizens" and provide special rights to them.

Ahead of the hearing, the political parties, figures in J&K have put the pressure on the Centre, sending a stern message to the Modi government not to scrap the law.

The likes of PDP chief and former CM Mehbooba Mufti, Congress and Peoples Conference (PC) chairman Sajjad Gani Lone have spoken in favor of 35A, and said that it cannot be, under any circumstances, scrapped.

The J&K authorities have said that only an elected state government can take a stand on this Article. Presently, J&K is under Governor's rule.
