Even as the police are still clueless on the identity of 11-year-old victim, who was raped and murdered in Surat, sources have confirmed to Republic TV that the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Surat got the samples of the victim on Monday, that is April 16, while the police had been claiming that they had sent samples on April 6. The latest development in the Surat rape-murder case raises harrowing questions as to what the police have been doing for the past 10 days, was it been sitting over the case.
Meanwhile, as per reports, the police have also been probing human-trafficking angle in the case as according to them the girl allegedly belonged to Odissa. However, there has been no confirmation in this specific claim.
Earlier on Monday, Gujarat Home Minister PS Jadeja on Monday said police in Surat is actively and strenuously investigating the alleged rape and murder of a minor and added that everything was being done as per law to get to the bottom of the matter.
"We condemn the incident and have directed police to carry out strenuous investigations in the matter," he said.
"The police are yet to receive any information on the family of the girl. We have printed posters to help with the same," Jadeja added.
Police had found body of the eleven-year-old girl in Surat with 86 injury marks in Surat. Police had recovered the severely injured body of the girl near a cricket ground in Bhestan area of Surat on April 6. After five-hour long postmortem, it was revealed that the girl was raped and tortured for at least eight days. She was strangled to death.
The girl has not been identified yet and none from her family has come forward to claim the body. It's still not known who the killer is. The police are scouting the list of the missing persons.
