At least 15 people were injured after a bus travelling from Visakhapatnam to Hyderabad overturned near Durajpalli village in Suryapet on Wednesday night, police said. The injured were taken to Suryapet government hospital. Four of them sustained critical injuries, Police Inspector Venkateswara Reddy said.

Investigation underway

"As the four received injuries on head and their position is serious, they were shifted to Osmania Hospital," he said. The bus was carrying around 49 passengers from Visakhapatnam to Hyderabad. The incident occurred at 4.30 am when the driver tried to avoid the lorry coming from the opposite side. Soon after receiving the information, police and highway authority rescue team members rushed the spot and sent the injured to the hospital. An FIR has been registered in this regard. An investigation is underway.

Road Accident in Haryana claims at least 10 lives 

This comes after a road accident in Haryana claimed at least 10 lives and left one injured on Tuesday night. Around 10.30 pm, The youths were returning home after participating in an Army recruitment rally when an oil tanker ran over their auto near Ramrai village. The auto travelled barely eight kilometres when the fateful accident took place on Jind-Hansi road. Five of the deceased hail from a single village. "Two of three people have been identified. We have found documents from their bags and intimated their family members to verify their identity," DSP Kaptal Singh reportedly said. The injured are undergoing treatment in a nearby hospital.

150,000 people killed every year in traffic accidents

According to reports, In India, more than 150,000 people are killed each year in traffic accidents, which means every hour 17 people died due to a road accident. That’s about 400 fatalities a day and far higher than developed auto markets like the US, which in 2016 logged about 40,000.
