Tamil Nadu logs 1,896 new COVID-19 infections, 23 fatalities

Tamil Nadu added 1,896 new COVID-19 on Sunday, pushing the overall caseload to 25,88,781, while 23 fatalities took the toll to 34,519.

Tamil Nadu added 1,896 new COVID-19 on Sunday, pushing the overall caseload to 25,88,781, while 23 fatalities took the toll to 34,519.

Recoveries were lesser in number with 1,842 people getting discharged in the last 24 hours, aggregating to 25,33,804, leaving 20,458 active infections, a health department bulletin said.

A total of 1,57,587 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, pushing the cumulative number of specimens examined to 3,98,03,533 till date.

As many as six districts comprised the majority of new infections, with Coimbatore leading with 225 cases, Chennai 216, Erode 179, Salem 127, Chengalpet 115 and Thanjavur 106. Ramanathapuram and Tuticorin recorded the least number of new infections with five cases each.

Twenty six districts reported new cases in double digits, while there were no fresh deaths in 27.

Seven of the deceased did not have any co-morbidities, the bulletin said.
