Man killed in Bihar over theft suspicion

In a similar incident that occurred in July at Bihar’s Vaishali district, a man was mercilessly beaten to death on the suspicion of theft. This man was lynched and stabbed on his neck multiple times before he was handed over to the villagers. The police, back then, lodged a case against the people in the village. Not being the first incident of mob justice in India, a man was similarly lynched in Jharkhand prior to this incident.

Jharkhand lynching case

A 22-year-old man identified as Tabrej was lynched by a group of people in Jharkhand. He was beaten up by the locals and also arrested on the suspicion of theft in Saraikela Kharsawanand. This lynching had a communal angle as Tabrej’s family alleged that the man was forcefully made to chant slogans of 'Jai Shri Ram' and 'Jai Hanuman' by the locals. Following the incident, PM Modi had expressed his pain at the incidence saying that those responsible must be punished by the law. However, PM also added that the whole state must not be held responsible for the act. Tabrej later lost his life because of the injuries.
