As Sonia Gandhi again takes on the reign of the Grand old party, netizens have commented on the 'Mummy Returns' move, while Congress' old guard emerged triumphant on Saturday, appointing Sonia Gandhi as the interim Congress President withholding its move to replace Rahul Gandhi till internal elections are held for the post.

Here are some of the comments on Congress' Gandhi replaces Gandhi move:

Congress appoints Sonia Gandhi as interim party president

Earlier on Saturday, in a return to dynasty politics, the CWC appointed Sonia Gandhi as the interim president after the meeting remained inconclusive. AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal during a media briefing said that the CWC unanimously wanted to Rahul Gandhi to work as the party's chief but since he declined they requested Sonia Gandhi to take over until the new president was elected. She has been the longest-serving Congress president and will succeed her son Rahul Gandhi after a gap of two years.

Sources to Republic had said that reports of all the five committees were supposed to be submitted and taken up for consideration by CWC. Even the committee in which Priyanka was there, had proposed Rahul Gandhi's name. The party's top decision-making body had reconvened at 8 pm to discuss reports of five groups, formed earlier in the day, to scrutinise names of potential successors to Rahul Gandhi, but failed to come to a final decision.

Rahul Gandhi had resigned on May 25, taking the moral responsibility of the party's Lok Sabha defeat where the Congress managed to win only 52 seats. Gandhi himself lost his bastion Amethi to Union Minister Smriti Irani.
