Update at 7:22 PM: 5 CRPF Jawans have been martyred in the terror attack  

In a terror attack, a police post was targetted in South Kashmir's Anantnag on Wednesday evening. 

Three CRPF Jawan has been reportedly martyred and three others were injured in the terror attack have been taken to a Srinagar hospital for specialised treatment. One terrorist is also known to be killed in the gun battle that is underway between the security forces and terrorists in the valley. 

According to the CRPF statement, the incident occurred at KP Chowk as motorcycle-borne terrorists opened fire with automatic rifles followed by the hurling of grenades on security forces deployed at the location.

Station House Officer (SHO) is critically injured, along with the civilian who sustained foot injuries.

Soon after the attack, the whole area has been cordoned off by the additional reinforcement of police, SOG, army, and CRPF.

The incidence occurred a few days prior to the annual pilgrimage to the Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas which begins on July 1. However, following the attack the state Governor Satya Pal Malik has given assurance that the Yatra will take the same route.
