In yet another major victory for security forces on the Indian border, three terrorists were gunned down in the Fateh Kadal area of Srinagar by a joint team of Police and CRPF on Wednesday. The three terrorists who were brought down by the forces are Faiaz (LeT), Bangru( LeT) and Raees Abibulah ( OGW, r/o Magam).
Having received specific information about terrorists, forces zeroed in on them in their house. But the terrorists opened fire, and gunfire between them and forces enraged. During this, three terrorists were neutralized, though, one SOG cop was martyred and a few CRPF jawan also suffered injuries.
Following the incident, district administration ordered closure of school and colleges on Wednesday.
This was the second major neutralization of terrorists by the forces in the past week. Earlier this month, two terrorists, including top Hizbul commander, Manan Wani, were killed in a gunfight encounter with the security forces in Handwara area of North Kashmir’s frontier district Kupwara on October 11.
Clashes had erupted near the gunfight site with youth pelting the forces with stones who responded by firing tear gas. Clashes were also reported in Lal Chowk, Anantnag. This was the first encounter reported in the valley after municipal election began in J&K.
While speaking to Republic TV, top Police senior officer, while wishing anonymity, had said that Wani was enrolled as a PhD scholar with the AMU before joining the ranks in January this year. However, sources informed that Wani along with two of his accomplice had come to the area to receive a group of recently infiltrated terrorists. "There is possibility that the infiltrated group is hiding in the nearby forest area and the operation may take longer than usual," he revealed.
Last month as well, the Indian army foiled a major infiltration bid along the line of control (LoC) in the Tangdhar sector of Kupwara district and gunned down five infiltrators. While two Terrorists were gunned on the evening of 23rd September, three more were killed on the very next morning. Though, an army Jawan had also lost his life while fighting the infiltrators on the line of control, a defence spokesman told Republic.
