Tragic: Eight children die in Bihar after lightning strikes tree amid flood

In yet another tragic incident in Bihar, eight children were killed due after lightning caused a tree to collapse. Bihar is already reeling under floods and a severe Encephalitis outbreak.

In yet another tragic incident in Bihar, eight children were killed after lightning caused a tree to collapse. Bihar is already reeling under floods and underwent a severe Encephalitis outbreak which killed over a hundred children.

In Bihar's Nawada district, owing to incessant rainfall and lightning caused a tree to fall and lead to the deaths of eight children. Several children have been injured in the incident.

Bihar government officials have reached the spot and are providing first aid to them. The government has announced Rs 4 lakh ex-gratia to the families of the deceased.

The flood situation had been remained grim in parts of the northeast and Bihar. The death toll had mounted to 44 on Monday, with 7 million people affected, even as north India witnessed widespread rainfall.

The national capital’s long wait for monsoon rains also en­ded Monday as it received 28.8 mm precipitation, the maximum in July this year; more rainfall is expected over the next two to three days.
