Tribal woman brutally thrashed and her clothes torn by upper caste accused in Maharashtra

Ruling NDA government is aggressively promoting 'Beti Bachao' and women security issue. But in the past few months, some incidents of brutal crime against women has shattered the tall claims of government. 

In Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar district, a tribal woman was mercilessly thrashed by the upper caste people. The incident happened on the 12th September in Bhangaon of Shrigonda taluka of Ahmednagar district. The accused and victim are neighbours. At the day of incident, the goats of victim lady mistakenly went into the farm of her neighbour, who belongs to the upper caste, wherein the goats ate the grass of the farm.

This angered the owner, and he along with his associates started beating the woman and her husband. The accused also tore the clothes of the victim lady, thrashing her with heavy sticks. When her husband tried to rescue her, he was beaten up as well. The woman tried to fight back but they overpowered her and mercilessly beat her up. The woman sustained injuries. One of the person who was present at the scene had shot the entire incident in his mobile phone.

Deputy Superintendent of the region, Sudarshan Mundhe told Republic TV that, 'We have registered a case under various section of IPC including atrocity act and outraging the modesty of the woman'.

All the accused have since then got out on bail. The video of the incident instantly became viral on social media.

The opposition parties have slammed the government over this incident. NCP has alleged that Dalits are unsafe in Maharashtra and especially the woman of the tribal community. NCP leader Nawab Malik said, "This incident has dented the image of progressive Maharashtra. Why is Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis silent? Why is he not uttering a single word?"

Congress has also launched a scathing attack against the government on this issue. MP Supriya Sule has demanded harsh punishment for the accused. This is not the first such incident of atrocities against Dalits in Maharashtra. Many such brutal incidents have happened in the past.

Recently, Maharashtra saw a huge movement of Dalits after the bheema Koregaon violence. Due to the growing atrocities against Dalits in the state, various Dalits organisations are coming together to fight against the ruling NDA party .
