It seems that Congress President Rahul Gandhi has landed in the middle of a controversy. During a Chhattisgarh rally, where he had allegedly made some derogatory remark against freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. According to the family members of Savarkar, On 10th November, Rahul Gandhi was addressing a rally in Jagdalpur of Chhattisgarh.

During his speech, Rahul Gandhi said “Do not teach us patriotism, there is a list of martyrs in congress party. When our leaders were fighting with British when our leaders were serving the jail term for 15-20 years, at that time your Savarkarji bow down before the Britishers and with folded hands, he had been apologising to the Britishers. You should not teach patriotism to the Congress party. You should tell the country about Rafale, about Dassualt”.

Ranjeet who is the grandson of Savarakar told Republic TV that the statement made by Rahul Gandhi is derogatory in nature.

Either Rahul Gandhi is the 'fool or he is ill-informed'. Ranjeet claims that his grandfather had never asked for mercy. He had served almost 27 years in jail. None of the Congress leaders had served more than 6 years in jail. The jail in which Mr Nehru was lodged at that time, was not less than a hotel suits. Ranjeet Savarkar challenged Rahul Gandhi to prove whether Jawaharlal Nehru spent more than 6 years in a jail. Kin of Savarkar had not yet stopped here but they went ahead & files written complaint against Congress president in Mumbai’s Shivaji Park police station & demands to file an FIR against Rahul Gandhi for his derogatory remark against Savarkar.

In their police complaint, Ranjeet Savarkar said Rahul Gandhi had said that Vir Savarkar had apologized to the Britishers with folded hand. By making such a false statement Rahul has defamed my grandfather. Savarkar was a great freedom fighter and nationalist.

Ranjeet also requested political parties to not to use Savarkar’s name as tool to target each other. However, this is not the first time when Rahul Gandhi or Congress party have used such remarks against Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. Savarkar was a freedom fighter, writer, poet & had died in 1966.
