Two terrorists were neutralised in an encounter in Brath Kalan area of Sopore in Jammu and Kashmir. The terrorists have been identified as Owais Bhat and Tahir Dar. They belong to the Lashkar-e-Toiba.

Two terrorists were neutralised in an encounter in Brath Kalan area of Sopore in Jammu and Kashmir. The terrorists have been identified as Owais Bhat and Tahir Dar. They belong to the Lashkar-e-Toiba. Two AK 47 rifles were been recovered from them.

The authorities have said in a press release that they had a credible input about the presence of terrorists in Brath Kalan area  of Sopore, following which there was a search operation by the Police and security forces jointly. Amidst the searches the forces were fired upon by the hiding terrorists. They retaliated to the firing leading to a gunfight. 

The encounter had begun between security forces and terrorists in Brath Kalan Gund Mohalla on Wednesday, concluded on Thursday morning. "The exchange of fire between terrorists and security forces has stopped," said the sources. The security forces have operated Cordon and Search Operation. The troops of 179 Battalion of CRPF, Special Operation Group (SOG), 22 RR, CRPF Range Quick Action Team, Baramulla, carried out the encounter.

All educational institutions across Sopore Sub Division will remain suspended on Thursday as a precautionary measure in order to maintain law and order problem following the killing of two militants in an encounter in Brath village of Sopore. Internet services were suspended in Sopore.

The encounter is still underway. More details are awaited. 

In November, three terrorists including Shakir Hassan Dar of Ansar Ghazwat Ul Hind have been killed in Jammu and Kashmir during an encounter operation by the forces in Jammu and Kashmir .

Shakir Hassan Dar is known to be a close aide of Zakir Musa. 

In the last month, six Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists are reported to be neutralised, including the killer of journalist Shujaat Bukhari in Anantnag district, Kashmir in an encounter with security forces in Sekipora area of Bijbhera.
