After Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis alleged that Shiv Sena never showed interest in discussion with BJP, Shiv Sena supremo Udhav Thackeray in a press conference on November 8, said he has never closed the doors for any discussion but stopped the talks with BJP as they accused him of lying. He added that the people of Maharashtra are fully aware that the son of the Shiv Sena founder will never lie.
"I never closed any doors for discussion, I stopped talks as they had accused me of lying. It is unacceptable to me as I have never lied. The people of Maharashtra know very well that the son of Shiv Sena founder would never lie. Hence, they should stop trying to prove me a liar."
Prior to the press conference of Uddhav Thackeray, Devendra Fadnavis held a press conference soon after submitting his resignation. He thanked the people for accepting him as the CM for the last five years and proceeded to slam the Shiv Sena in an extraordinary briefing and alleged that there were no talks of the '50-50 formula' in front of him. Fadnavis also alleged that he called Sena Chief several times but he never received his calls.
Fadnavis also lashed out at Sena for holding backdoor talks with NCP and Congress. Fadnavis added, "The people chose Mahayuti. All MLAs of Shiv Sena were also chosen because all the votes were going to Mahayuti that is why we are also puzzled why the Sena chief made such a statement. It is unfortunate that certain statements were made by certain leaders in the media. We were open for talks but Shiv Sena never came ahead for talks. They did not have time to meet me or with BJP but they spoke to NCP and Congress every day. They held backdoor talks with NCP and Congress but did not speak with the BJP which means it was pre-decided to go with NCP and Congress and not with BJP."
