After top Congress leader Salman Khurshid claimed that it will be difficult for the Congress party to win on its own in the 2019 general elections and it needs allies for the same, Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has slammed the Congress. Naqvi has said that ‘Alliance is not in Congress’ DNA’.
“Gathbandhan needs intention and the strength to get everyone together and the Congress has failed at both fronts. Alliance is not in Congress’ DNA. Stitching a grand alliance needs a grand heart and great mind and the Congress doesn’t have both. Which is why alliance hasn’t happened, the potential allies have left Congress already. Look at the alliance stitched by the NDA. Even after getting total majority in 2014 general elections, we haven’t left any of our allies. We ran the government with taking along all the allies,” said Naqvi
“If Congress continues with its negative mindset and enter the polls with its fabricated stories, then the party will roam around like this for decades to come. We will go to the public with our plank of good governance and development, following which we take the blessings of the public,” the Union Minister added.
In an interview to news agency PTI, Salman Khurshid stated that Congress needs allies to win and will have to make compromises for the same.
Salman Khurshid has said that any grand alliance must not be aimed at "containing Congress" and that all its constituents must make sacrifices and adjustments with the sole objective of defeating the BJP-led NDA.
Khurshid also feels it will be difficult for the Congress to come to power on its own.
"All our leaders have made it very clear that an alliance (is needed) to change the country's government. The BJP must go. Whatever it takes to sacrifice, adjust and negotiate to make the alliance a reality, Congress is willing to do, Khurshid told PTI here in an interview.
"But it is only fair that it should be the same attitude of other (opposition) parties. The alliance must not be for containing Congress, the alliance must be for removing BJP and we are willing for anything," he said.
