Uttarakhand: Four more BJP MLAs suspended for anti-party activities

Uttarakhand's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) General Secretary Rajendra Bhandari issued a letter wherein he expelled four members for anti-party activities. They were suspended for allegedly working against BJP supported nominees in the ongoing panchayat polls. The members have been suspended are Maya Pant, Uma Dabral, Govind Singh Jamwal, and Harish Bhandari. The letter was issued by the party's state unit general secretary Rajendra Bhandari, who expelled the members on the direction of state BJP President Ajay Bhatt.

Strict disciplinary policy

The BJP has maintained the strict policy on the expulsion of members who indulge in anti-party activities and has, so far, expelled 94 members for involving themselves in anti-party activities. BJP Uttrakhand's State President and Nainital MP Ajay Bhatt said the discipline of party members is utmost priority and those who don't follow the regulations will be punished firmly. 

On September 29, the party suspended as many as 40 members for "anti-party activities". Bhatt had expelled them after he received reports by organizational committees constituted at the district level. Bhandari had then said, "They have been stripped of their party posts and their expulsion will soon follow". In July, the party had suspended Kunwar Pranav Singh 'Champion', after a video went viral in which he was seen dancing with guns in his mouth and in his hands. BJP leader Anil Baluni then told the media that they had asked for an explanation from Singh for his actions, but they were not satisfied with his response and thus expelled him.

The party has served notice with similar charges to its MLA from Raipur in Dehradun district Umesh Sharma Kau and sought an explanation from him within three days. Kau was served a notice on Oct 6 after an audio clip went viral in which he was heard purportedly asking for votes for an independent candidate instead of the one backed by the party in the ongoing panchayat polls.

Meeting with lawmakers

Earlier this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with his elected representatives where he mentioned how discipline had to be maintained by all members of the party. He also stated that action will be taken against those who don't follow the party's code of conduct and will be punished irrespective of the position they hold or the background they have.
