Padma Shri awardee and veteran actor Dinyar Contractor passed away in Mumbai on Wednesday morning due to age-related ailments, news agency ANI reported. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and wrote paid tribute to the veteran actor, saying that Dinyar Contractor was special because he spread lots of happiness.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and paid tribute to the veteran actor, saying that Dinyar Contractor was special because he spread lots of happiness. 

PM Modi further added that his versatile acting brought smiles on several faces of his fans. From theatre to television and films, Mr Contractor excelled across all medium, he wrote. Expressing sadness over his demise, the Prime Minister further said that his thoughts are with his family and admirers. 

Union Minister Smriti Irani also took to Twitter to pay her tribute to the veteran actor. She stated that he brought bursts of laughter with him wherever he went.

Calling him a theatre legend and actor par excellence, she further wrote, "We will miss your presence Dinyar bhai. Rest in Peace Padma Shri Dinyar Contractor". 

79-year-old veteran actor and theatre legend Dinyar Contractor appeared in films such as "Baadshah" and "Khiladi". According to the family sources, the actor died due to old age-related health issues, news agency PTI reported. The actor was best known for his comic roles in films and was awarded a Padma Shri, earlier this year. He will be cremated at the Worli prayer hall for Parsis at 3.30 pm on Wednesday.
