A video of Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman interacting with his colleagues in Jammu & Kashmir, on Saturday, has gone viral.
In the video posted by ANI, Varthaman is seen posing for many selfies with the various Army officers who are seen cheering him without shouts of Bharat Mata ki jai.
After a few selfies, Varthaman is heard saying, " Now I will tell you why I clicked so many phoos with you. These photos are for your families whom I could not meet personally. A lot of people prayed for my recovery of which some would have been your fanily members too."
Varthaman, who was recently nominated by the Air Force for the Vir Chakra has been cleared flying and has resumed his flying duties from an airbase in along the Pakistan border.
He is most known for being the only pilot in the world to have shot down an F-16 combat aircraft from his vintage MiG-21 Bison aircraft on February 27 during an aerial conflict with Pakistan.
Following the aerial dogfight, he was captured by the Pakistani Army on February 27 after his MiG-21 Bison jet was shot down during combat. He was released by Pakistan after 48 hours on March 1. While he was in Pakistan custody, he showed extreme courage and grace in handling the most difficult circumstances in the neighbouring country.
Three weeks ago, Wing Commander Varthaman underwent medical tests at a Delhi-based facility for becoming eligible to fly the MiG-21s again.
Twitter has been hailing the legend and his modest speech on the video:
