YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) head Jagan Mohan Reddy suffered arm injury on Thursday after he was attacked by a sharp knife-like object at the Visakhapatnam Airport. The man behind the attack was identified as Srinivas who is a staff with the airport canteen. He was immediately dragged away by the police and taken into custody.

The Visakhapatnam Airport has issued a Statement which states the following points:

  • "During Jagan Mohan Reddy 's brief stay at the VIP Lounge at around 12:40 pm, a waiter from the Fusion Food Restaurant while serving tea, attacked him with a pen knife on his left shoulder"
  • "He was immediately given first aid" and he departed by the flight as per schedule
  • "The accused was immediately taken under control by CISF and handed over to the local police authority"
  • "The matter is under detailed investigation by the police authority"

Here's the full statement:

Earlier in the day, YRSCP leader YV Subba Reddy termed the incident as a major security lapse while mentioning that the accused in this case worked at a restaurant belonging to TDP leader.

"It is 100% security lapse, and the government here are not providing any security to its opposition leader. Reason we cannot know unless we find who the person was. But how come he entered airport, because airport is...even a nailcutter," he said while speaking excluisively to Republic TV.

However, the ruling party, TDP, has rejected any claims of their involvement in this crime, while dismissing the comments made by YSRCP against them. Speaking on the allegations against his party, Srinivas Kesineni said:

"That is totally baseless. The investigation is going on. Once the enquiry gets over, we will get to know who the person is and what actually happened. Police enquiry is going on. We cannot come upto any kind of conclusion. YSRCP will as usual try to take a political mileage on this. So once the police enquiry is over, we'll get to know the facts."
