The trailer of the much-anticipated political drama 'The Accidental Prime Minister' released on Thursday, December 27. The political drama is based on the life of the former Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh and traces his journey throughout the time he was in power. The release of the trailer has got caught into a huge controversy pertaining to the fact that the book (by author Sanjaya Baru) that the film is based on alleges that Dr. Singh was never fully in control of his cabinet and a significant amount of power was wielded by then Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

In an exclusive interview with Editor-in-Chief of Republic TV, Arnab Goswami on Nation Wants To Know, veteran actor Anupam Kher spoke about playing the character of Dr Manmohan Singh. On being asked if the film has portrayed UPA chief and former Congress president as a 'vamp', said:

"I am not the producer of the film. In the cinema when you are making the film for the entire audience, there's a certain interpretation which goes into it. Suzanne Bernert has done a great job. And it's the way you look at it."

Later when he was asked if Sonia Gandhi's character has been personated a 'control-freak' and a 'possessive mother', he added:

"That's how it comes across in the book. Everything that you said. We are not writing our own script. We bought the rights of the book and the book projects her like that. Why was Dr Manmohan Singh called a remote-control Prime Minister?"
