On Tuesday afternoon, Delhi CM and AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal survived a major scare after managed to escape unhurt from a 'chilli attack' outside his chamber at the Delhi secretariat by an individual.
It was found out that the attacker, Anil Kumar Sharma, had shouted 'Mai deshbhakt hu' before trying to pour the chilli powder in the eyes of Kejriwal, who managed to survive the scare due to his spectacles.
In the aftermath of the attack, Delhi Police, along with the Intelligence Bureau questioned the attacker and Republic TV has accessed the video of the same. Anil could be seen brazenly defending his action while accusing Kejriwal of fooling the people.
"Whatever I could have done, I did today. Since nine years he has been making a fool of us. Since nine years he is shadowing his true identity in the pretext of being a nationalist. On Facebook, a true nationalist wrote, I have become crazy for him. Even if some shoots me, I am crazy for him. That doesn't mean you should keep quiet. Will you keep quiet?," he said during his questioning.
Republic TV also accessed the CCTV footage of the incident. In the 8-second clip, the Delhi Chief Minister can be seen speaking to his would-be attacker at a lobby area before entering into a room (reportedly his office). There are also a number of other people around them. After Kejriwal speaks to the attacker, he bends down to touch Kejriwal's feet. At this point Kejriwal makes to move away and enter the doorway. This is when the attacker pounces and plants a palmful of chilli powder on the Delhi CM's face, knocking his glasses askew even as the people around them restrain him.
AAP has claimed that BJP is hatching a conspiracy against the party and its national convenor while also accusing Delhi Police of letting the attack happen. The party posted a tweet terming the incident a serious security lapse from the Delhi Police. The party also put out their narration of the attack:
"Anil came to meet Arvind Kejriwal. He wanted to give him a letter. He bent down on the pretext of touching his (Kejriwal's) feet and then fished out chilli powder. Kejriwal tried to stop him. The Chief Minister lost his balance and his spectacles fell onto floor and were broken. The attacker also threatened he will shoot the Delhi CM."
