WATCH: BJP's Pragya Thakur Stokes Another Controversy, Says 'wasn't Elected To Clean Toilets Or Drains'

Triggering another controversy, BJP's Bhopal MP Pragya Thakur has now stated that she wasn't elected to 'clean toilets or drains' while addressing the public in Madhya Pradesh's Sehore

At the time when the BJP has been pushing for Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the contentious leader explicitly said that she will not undertake the tasks like cleaning of public toilets and drains, but will work towards things 'that she is supposed to'

She said, "I haven't been elected to clean drains, get that straight. I was never elected to clean your toilets. I will honestly work towards things that I am supposed to do. I have said it before and I will say it again." 

Pragya received flak from Opposition leaders over her statement, wherein, NCP leader Majid Memon that Thakur knows 'absolutely nothing'

He said, "Sadhvi Pragya is always making controversial statements. She is a novice as a parliamentarian. She knows absolutely nothing. She must know that the Swachh Bharat is among the foremost campaign of Narendra Modi and for this campaign clean toilets are mandatory. If she does not want to work towards this then it would be better if she stays at home and prays rather than becoming people's representative." 

"She must not discourage people from doing so. Nobody is asking you to pick up the broom. But you must at least promote cleanliness." he added

RJD leader Manoj Jha also hit out at Thakur's controversial remarks.

He said, "I'm from Rajya Sabha. I have always received complaints and people have hopes from me. The Prime Minister should know the kind of politician he fielded from Bhopal."

Congress; Tariq Anwar stated that the Bhopal MP must know how 'important Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is'

"The BJP fielded her as a candidate. She should know how important the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is. As a leader, she should take an interest in this." 

Last week, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla accompanied with Union Ministers and Members of Parliament took part in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' in Parliament premises.  Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Minister of State (Finance) Anurag Thakur, BJP leaders Hema Malini, Rajyavardhan Rathore, Hansraj Hans, and others picked up a broom and participated in the cleanliness drive.
