  • Speaking to media on Tuesday, Manohar Lal Khattar has reiterated his government's stand that he has a right to seek parole

A day after Haryana Sports Minister Anil Vij batted for parole to rape and murder convict Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has finally broken his silence in the matter.

Speaking to media on Tuesday, Manohar Lal Khattar has reiterated his government's stand that if Ram Rahim has the right to apply for parole.

"No one can be stopped from asking for parole. Parole is asked from the jail superintendent. Then the superintendent sends the report to the Deputy Commissioner. He then takes report from the SP and after that sends the reports to Divisional Commissioner for recommendations. And after that, if the state government has a role, it will do the needful," Manohar Lal Khattar said.

(Parole mangane main kisi ko rok nhi sakte. Parole jo mangi jaati h wo jail adhyaksh se mangi jaati h. Adhyaksh us report ko as it is upayukt mohodye ko bhejte h. Upayukt aake SP se report lete hai aur antim baad main koi recommendation nikalte h to divisional commissioner karte hai. Uske baad sarkar ka role ho to sarkar karega, agar sarkar ka role nhi hoga to nhi karega.)

Responding to the questions on Ram Rahim's parole controversy, the Haryana CM went onto give the details of the procedure of the parole.

"As far as the information that I have received, the court is keeping a close watch on the case. Furthermore, we will also see all the administrative provisions and take care of law and order. Court's permission will be taken and only that decision will be in favour of the state. Court's decision and state's decision are different," he added.

(Mujhe jaha tak jankari mili hai, is ghatna par court bhi nazar rakhe hue hai aur hum log prashasnik vyavsayio ko dekhkar aur niyam kanoon ko dekhkar, court ki permission ki avashyakta hai to wo lekar koi decision jo pradesh ke hit main hoga wo karenge. Jo nirdaye pradesh ke hit main nhi hoga to wo nhi hoga. Court nirdaye kuch karta hai to court ka vishay alag hota hai. Isliye ye aisa ek vishay hai jispar nirdaye nhi liya hai. Abhi ye vishay DC aur SP level hai.)

Controversy broke on Monday when the Manohar Lal Khattar-led Haryana government batted for parole to the rape convict. Haryana Sports Minister Anil Vij speaking to media had said that there is "nothing wrong" in giving parole to Ram Rahim even if he is convicted in rape cases.

"There is nothing wrong in giving him parole even though he has been convicted. The parole rule must be the same for all. Like other prisoners gets parole, if he has behaved properly in the jail, he can get parole," said Anil Vij.

Furthermore, a letter was written by the jail superintendent by the Haryana government, saying that Rahim has the right to get parole if his behavior has been good in jail. The letter stated that he has spent one year in jail and that his behaviour in jail is good, adding that Ram Rahim did not commit any crime inside the prison.
