A day after returning from Pakistan, Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu, on Saturday, responded to the controversies over his visit to the neighbouring county and clicking a photograph with 26/11 mastermind and Lashkar-e-Taiba leader Hafiz Saeed's aide Gopal Singh Chawla.
On being asked about Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh's denial to his visit to Pakistan, Navjot Singh Sidhu, speaking to the reporter, asserted that while the CM denied, there was approval from 20 leaders and central leadership of the Congress party for his visit. Furthermore, he also boasted about being offered the position of a minister by Pakistan PM Imran Khan in the neighbouring country as well.
"At least 20 Congress leaders asked me to go. Central leadership also asked me to go. Have a look at Shashi Tharoor's tweet. Read Harish Rawat's tweet and Randeep Surjewala's tweet also. I told Punjab CM, who is like my father, that I have promised them (Pakistan), even before you communicated with me. And when Sidhu makes a promise, he keeps it. They(Imran Khan) even offered me the position of a minister there(Pakistan)," Sidhu claimed.
Later, when asked about the photograph with pro-Khalistani leader Gopal Singh Chawla, Sidhu, yet again, stated that while thousands of people were clicking pictures with him, he had no idea who Chawla was, while ridiculing the question.
"20,000 people click photographs with me, then how will I understand who is Chawla, Pratima, Cheema or Seema? How can I have a meeting with a person whom I don't know, I never met? Just like the thousand other people, he also came and clicked a photo with me. How would I know who is he? I went to the foreign land, now it is their protocol to make me sit according to their arrangement," said Sidhu.
Speaking to the news agency ANI, the Congress leader also made some sensational statements, saying that the critics who mocked him for Kartarpur Corridor are 'licking their own spit and taking U-turns now':
In the wake of his visit to Pakistan, Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu has been inviting several controversies. On November 29, Gopal Singh Chawla, an aide of the 26/11 terror attack mastermind and Lashkar-e-Taiba founder, took to his social media and even shared a picture with Punjab minister Sidhu in which he referred to him in as his 'brother'.
