BJP senior leader Himanta Biswa Sarma in a conversation with Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami at the The Debate gave the details that unfolded in the CWC meeting and the turbulence over Congress president Rahul Gandhi's party presidency.
Accusing the Gandhi scion of 'enacting a drama' in the CWC meeting, Sarma claimed that the Gandhi scion attacked former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, chief minister of Madhya Pradesh Kamal Nath and chief minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot for promoting the political career of their sons.
He said, "Rahul enacted this drama very nicely, that day when CWC was assembled to discuss Rahul's resignation, Rahul first attacked Chidambaram. He said that you have blackmailed our party, the story is that Chidambaram met Sonia Gandhi two months back and said if you don't give ticket to Karti, then I'll resign my Rajya Sabha seat, so Rahul reminded saying that you have attacked the party. Then he attacked Kamal Nath saying you have only worked for your son, then he took on Ashok Gehlot saying that you have spent the entire time in the constituency of your son and you have not done anything in rest of Rajasthan. So a person who wants resign taking moral responsibility, he started the meeting attacking each and every senior Congress leader. Meaning, I am the honest one and you all are guilty."
"He has enacted this drama very nicely, everybody got defensive and he was only offensive. Actually the person who is responsible for the defeat should take responsibility. Only exception in CWC was Kumari Selja who said why are you allowing your staff to enter into CWC. Six staff members of Rahul Gandhi were present in the CWC, so Kumai Selja protested it. That was the only protesting note," he added.
He furthermore called out the hypocrisy of Rahul Gandhi for attacking Congress leaders of promoting their sons.
He said, "Rahul is the greatest dynast and he is still attacking the people that why are you promoting your son. Actually he ends up attacking Sonia Gandhi for promoting Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka. Rahul does not want to quit."
