Shashi Tharoor during the relaunch of his book 'Nehru - The Invention of India', said that a 'chaiwala' can reach the heights of holding the post of a Prime Minister because of institutions created by Nehru. He further said that Nehru made it possible for common man to reach the dizzying heights of top office of India. In the light of Chaiwala statement made by the senior Congress leader, this is what Republic TV's Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami had to say about the matter on The Debate:
"The silly infantile logic of Tharoor is only made worse by the fact that like a primary school child he tries to impress by pulling dictionary words out to substitute simple and available ones and we all know that on content he is zero and that is why he is best ignored. But when Rahul Gandhi launches him to say that a man from a very poor economic background like Narendra Modi should thank the very wealthy Nehru for allowing poor people like him a chance of becoming Prime Minister of India. Where he says that Narendra Modi should thank the wealthy Gandhi-Nehru-Vadra family for giving a chaiwala like him a chance of becoming the leader of India then the Congress really shows its colours. Saying that Nehru allowed a chaiwala to become a PM that Nehru allowed a chaiwala to become the PM stinks of outdated elitism, the kind that disgust India bursting with merit. It stinks Mr Tharoor it stinks of the feeling that just because you imitate a foreign accent, you are superior to someone who has worked his way up from being a chaiwala . And it stinks Mr Tharoor of a mentality that you represents, people like you represent. That everything good in India is because of the magic of the Vadra-Gandhi family. And because it stinks so much it must be set aside and challenged and destroyed. This is what I will do tonight"
