India observes her 69th Republic Day on Friday, Jan 26. On this day in 1950, just over two years after winning Independence from the British, the Constitution of India had come into effect, thereby making India's a democratic form of government, and replacing the Government of India Act (1935) as the governing document of India.

For the first time in history, leaders of 10 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries - Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Myanmar (Burma), Cambodia, Laos, and Brunei will grace the Republic Day parade as chief guests in the national capital.
