The Supreme Court on Friday pronounced the order for mediation to settle the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute, appointing a three-member panel headed by Justice (Retd) FM Kalifulla, including spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, and senior advocate Sriram Panchu.
The top court has given the panel eight weeks to arrive at a conclusion in the Ayodhya case. The panel has to give a status report at the end of four weeks.
Patanjali Ayurved Ltd cofounder Baba Ramdev responded to the decision.
"I welcome the decision of mediation taken by the Supreme Court. This decision was taken after a lot of years. We hope those mediating come with some resolution soon. It's not a property dispute, it's a matter of faith," he said.
The Supreme Court during announcing the order stated that the mediation will take place in Uttar Pradesh's Faizabad. The mediation process is to take place in-camera.
"It is a very serious responsibility given to me by the honourable Supreme Court. I will do my best," he said while speaking over the development.
Mediator in the Ayodhya mediation panel, senior advocate and Sriram Panchu also spoke about the case.
